Always on top of the facts

Offering practical, cost-effective advice whatever the subject matter or value of the claim, our expert team covers the full commercial dispute portfolio.

The right team at your side

We act for companies, charities and individuals, including trustees and executors, seeking resolution to disputes relating to:

  • Product and service delivery
  • Contractual performance
  • Professional negligence and breach of warranty claims
  • Property

We can also handle judicial review, contentious insolvency work and debt collection.

Not all our work is litigious and we’re often instructed to advise on risk or to steer clients through difficult contractual or legal issues with a view to avoiding disputes. For small businesses and entrepreneurs we can provide expert help of the kind offered by in-house counsel in larger institutions.

Fair but firm

Where a dispute cannot be avoided, we have a reputation for being fair, but firm. And we believe alternative dispute resolution (ADR) can be an effective way to resolve disputes when supported by the parties. Should litigation remain the only option, however, we’re strategic and effective.

Our 10-partner contentious practice is the largest department in the firm and continues to grow offering particular expertise in disputes relating to property plus trusts, wills and probate.

Litigation cases can also frequently involve:

  • Employment
  • Matrimony
  • Partnerships
  • Shareholders and company law
  • Finance and banking
  • Court of Protection
  • Judicial Review
  • Injunctions

Well connected for the higher courts

With many of our clients’ disputes combining a commercial/financial angle with a London connection, much of our work takes place before the higher courts. By serving client needs effectively from either our Salisbury or Lincoln’s Inn Fields offices, we operate very cost-effectively.

Pragmatic, effective and with many regarded as leading practitioners in their respective fields, members of our team belong to professional bodies such as:

  • The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP)
  • The Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists (ACTAPS)
  • The Property Litigation Association
  • The Agricultural Law Association
  • The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.

When it comes to preserving and enforcing property rights, our team can help resolve a wide range of issues. We listen to get a deep understanding of your situation, to provide clear information and advice and, where possible, help you try to avoid the need for litigation.

We’re experts on all matters relating to the Rent Act including possession, abandonment and succession. Our clients in this area include corporate landlords and asset managers – including FTSE 250 companies – and the largest private residential landlord in the UK. We also specialise in Assured and Assured Shorthold tenancy matters, often advising how best to recover properties.

Clients regularly look to us for guidance on rights of way, boundaries and adverse possession, as well as social housing legislation, dilapidation claims, lease renewals and forfeiture proceedings and estoppel-related claims.

We regularly deal with the First Tier Tribunal, advise landlords and managing agents on the content of consultation notices, and also have experience in the social housing sector.
