Cambodia delays bill to make commercial surrogacy illegal

25 May 2018

The Council of Ministers in Cambodia was due to discuss a draft bill which would make commercial surrogacy illegal in the country, while continuing to permit altruistic surrogacy, but discussion of the bill has been delayed.  The reason given for the delay is that, as surrogacy is a complex subject, more time is needed to consider the matter and because of "uncertainties relating to the existing laws of Cambodia".  The secretary of state at the Ministry of Interior was unable to say for how long the postponement would last.
