France Moves Towards IVF for Single and Lesbian Women

5 October 2018

The National Consultative Committee on Bioethics in France has recommended that IVF and other assisted reproductive technologies should be available for single and gay women and have stated women should be allowed to freeze their eggs in order to extend their fertility, whilst emphasising that it does not actually encourage the practice. The Committee, however, has advised that the ban on surrogacy stays in place.

Despite these recommendations, the Government has said that it is not bound by them.
