Role overview

We are looking for an experienced and collaborative IT professional who enjoys directly managing IT operations while leading and developing a small support team. At Wilsons, the IT Manager oversees day-to-day IT service delivery, implements system improvements, supports cloud-based initiatives, and helps maintain cyber security and business continuity. 

Ensuring the firm’s IT systems are reliable, secure, and aligned with business needs, combining operational leadership with practical technical expertise.

Reporting to the IT Director, the role plays an important part in driving service quality, operational resilience, and continuous improvement across the firm’s technology environment.

The work you'll be doing

Key Accountabilities

IT Service Delivery

  • Take ownership of the daily operation of IT systems and services across the firm.
  • Support 1st, 2nd, and 3rd line technical issues, including diagnosing and resolving complex or escalated problems.
  • Provide a visible technical presence during incidents or periods of high demand to ensure timely resolution.
  • Identify recurring technical issues and implement practical solutions to improve system stability and reduce downtime.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with third-party IT suppliers and service providers.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead and manage the IT support team, setting priorities and clear expectations.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and guidance to develop the team’s technical skills and confidence.
  • Maintain an active technical role within the team while providing effective leadership and support.

Systems, Security, and Resilience

  • Maintain and continuously improve the firm’s core IT systems, ensuring they are secure, reliable, and fit for purpose.
  • Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning, helping ensure the firm can operate during disruptions.
  • Contribute to the firm’s cyber security strategy, working with the IT Director to manage risks and respond to incidents effectively.

Change and Improvement

  • Collaborate with the IT Director to introduce new technologies and enhance existing systems where they deliver business value and run projects to improve the IT offering.
  • Participate in the testing, upgrading, and implementation of system and software changes.
  • Support the firm’s ongoing transition to cloud-based services, particularly Microsoft 365 and Azure, improving operational efficiency and user experience.

Ways of Working

  • This is a strongly operational role with a practical focus, not purely strategic or desk-based.
  • Travel between the Salisbury and London offices may be required.
  • Occasional out-of-hours or weekend work may be required to support upgrades or resolve critical issues.

Our experienced and friendly IT team consists of an IT Director, IT Manager and three IT support professionals; all of whom are based at our Salisbury office.
