Our trainee programme places willingness to take responsibility centre stage. We’ll give you the chance to develop this from early in your career – even dealing with clients in your first week.

Learning from experience

Tax & Trusts

Higher tax rates and more restrictive legislation mean that clients increasingly need help to arrange their affairs efficiently within the tax law framework. Our 40-lawyer Tax and Trusts team advises a diverse client base from charities, entrepreneurs, company directors, and individuals with inherited wealth, to foreign domiciliaries and those with international interests.

Wills & Trusts Disputes

The members of our specialist team are widely recognised as leaders in this field, offering strength in depth and a truly bespoke approach for clients facing difficulties of any kind concerning an estate or a trust, whether in this country or offshore. Working for individuals, professionals and charities, we liaise closely with our colleagues in our Tax & Trusts, Landed & Historic Estates and Probate teams to provide a complete and seamless service.

Probate & Estate Administration

We have a national reputation when it comes to the administration of estates.  We advise executors and administrators about their duties and deal with all aspects of the administration of estates. Our clients include individuals, land and business owners, foreign domiciliaries and charities.

Farms & Estates

Our deep expertise in farm and estate law dates back to our earliest days. In fact, our firm was originally founded to serve farmers and estate owners. Today, we still specialise in all aspects of property and agricultural law, as well as succession planning and wealth management – enabling our clients to achieve their goals quickly and efficiently.

Disputes

Where a dispute cannot be avoided, we have a reputation for being fair, but firm. And we believe alternative dispute resolution (ADR) can be an effective way to resolve disputes when supported by the parties. Should litigation remain the only option, however, we’re strategic and effective.

Our 10-partner contentious practice is the largest department in the firm and continues to grow offering particular expertise in disputes relating to property plus trusts, wills and probate.

Commercial Property

Insightful, approachable and swift to grasp what’s needed, our commercial property team brings over 50 years’ experience to the table. We provide expert, value-for-money advice to ensure our clients' interests align with their business goals. Our experience covers all areas from commercial lettings and developments to buying new buildings (freehold or leasehold) and freehold acquisitions and disposals.

Employment

Our employment team handles a wide variety of work and growing client base from individuals to PLCs, partnerships and owner-managed businesses of all sizes, charities, rural estates and schools and academies. Our responsive advice has seen numerous clients return to us throughout their careers.

Entry Requirements

Our success depends on employing the highest quality people. So, if you apply, you’ll not only need to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills, but also show the enthusiasm to learn plus the ability to multitask and think clearly. Good team working skills are also vital.

My training contract so far has been so interesting. My first seat is in Property, and I'm really enjoying it! I've had a wide range of tasks from day one, including amending farm business tenancies and helping colleagues with the sale of large complex estates. I had contact with clients early on and have had several networking opportunities within Wilsons and with land agents. Everyone is also so supportive, taking time to provide detailed feedback and tips for future tasks.

Mabel Warrick,
Trainee Solicitor

I've really enjoyed working at Wilsons, everyone has been friendly, supportive and welcoming from the start. The work has always been interesting and sometimes challenging, but I've felt well supported and increasingly confident as I have gone along. Overall I'm loving it here!

Catherine Fryer-Spedding,
Trainee Solicitor

Right from the start of my training contract here at Wilsons I have felt supported and encouraged from the whole team. I have already been involved in a wide range of tasks including attending client meetings in the London office. Valuable feedback is provided after every task, and an effort is made to expose us to useful and interesting tasks within our training. Everyone is super friendly and happy to help where they can!

Anna Newell,
Trainee Solicitor

I have really enjoyed my first seat at Wilsons so far. Everyone is so friendly and willing to help, and I have been given a wide breadth of interesting work – no two days are the same. I feel I am being given a very thorough grounding in all aspects of my seat. On the social side, I really enjoyed the recent firm-wide Wilsons Quiz as it was great to chat to members of my department I haven't seen as often.

Chiara Parisotti,
Trainee Solicitor

I joined Wilsons in 2022 knowing I would like a career in law but with no idea what the path to qualification looked like. I quickly realised that the team at Wilsons were incredibly supportive and helped me understand that the path to qualification was not out of my reach as I had always thought. The extensive knowledge and support of all Wisons' employees makes it a place that I would love to remain at for many years to come.

Trainee Solicitor
