As the flagship production of this year's Festival, Wiltshire Creative will stage a large-scale, immersive walkabout production of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet in and around Salisbury Playhouse and the surrounding Cultural Quarter. This ambitious project continues the organisation’s legacy of innovative, community-engaged work, following productions such as Congress at Salisbury Cathedral and The Tempest at Churchill Gardens, both of which showcased large community participation alongside professional artists.
The production invites audiences to journey with the cast through multiple indoor and outdoor locations. Beginning in the foyer before moving to the underground car park, the Playhouse becomes the fortified Capulet residence, with scenes unfolding across balconies, outdoor areas, and public spaces. Storytelling, music, and visual art will animate the journey, with all audience members provided with headphones to enhance audio clarity and creative sound design.
Prepare to experience theatre like never before in the heart of our city.
Holly Britten, Head of Marketing at Wilsons, says:
“We are delighted to be the main sponsor of Romeo and Juliet as part of this year’s Salisbury International Arts Festival. This ambitious immersive production promises to be a real highlight of the programme, and we are proud to support an event that will engage audiences, strengthen community spirit and showcase the power of arts and culture.”
