Covid-19: ban on commercial evictions extended to 30 June 2021

11 March 2021

On 10 March 2021 the Government announced that the current ban on evictions of commercial property is to be extended until 30 June 2021. The current ban, which was put into force in December 2020, was set to expire at the end of March 2021.

This further extension will be welcomed by tenant groups. Although Covid-19 infection rates are falling, the Government's roadmap out of lockdown has many more steps to go and it will be some time before the country is back on its feet. The extension to the ban will enable businesses, particularly those in the hospitality sector, to begin trading again.

The Government has similarly announced that the ban on residential evictions in all but the most serious of cases will be extended until 31 May 2021. The current ban was otherwise due to end at the end of March (you can read about our previous article on this here).
