Kaur v Singh: The Inheritance Act and patriarchal inheritance practices (Today’s Wills & Probate)

The case of Kaur v Singh shows how the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975 can be used to challenge patriarchal inheritance practices and redistribute family wealth. 

Solicitor, Alexandra Gibb has written an article for Today's Wills & Probate on the decision in Kaur v Singh and what it means for future wives and daughters that could be deprived of inheritance in favour of their male relatives. 

Alexandra comments that the "decision shows how the Inheritance Act can provide an effective means of redress for spouses/civil partners left vulnerable after being excluded from property ownership within the family".
