Promotions announced 2025 W

We are delighted to announce the following promotions effective from 1 April 2025:

Ben Smith - promoted to Partner

Ben joined Wilsons as a trainee in 2015 and joined the Tax & Trusts Team when he qualified in 2017.  Since then, he's shown great energy and enthusiasm in developing his expertise, putting himself through demanding tax exams and learning from Jonathan Stephens and others about key practice areas, including owner managed businesses.  Along the way, Ben gained recognition as one of the top 35 under 35 private client solicitors nationwide.  He also joined the Law Society's special interest group on stamp duty land tax.  While continuing to fine tune his own professional skills, Ben now plays an important mentoring role for junior members of the Tax & Trusts team and more widely across the firm.

Orla Laurenson - promoted to Senior Associate

Orla joined Wilsons in November 2023, bolstering the strength of the Probate Team.  Although her probate expertise is broad, she specialises in cases with an agricultural element (she has a strong family link to farming).  Orla spoke impressively at Agrilaw last year and she spends numerous weekends attending agricultural events and networking with clients and referrers, which has been very effective in generating new work for the firm.

Ellen Rutter - promoted to Associate

Ellen joined the Property Team in December 2022, having qualified as a solicitor in 2021. She hit the ground running, getting stuck into the Property Team's substantial workload from day one.  Ellen deals with most areas of property law and specialises in commercial matters. She helps the Company Commercial Team with the property aspects of commercial acquisitions and assists a range of commercial, charity and estate clients with lease, easement and freehold matters.  Ellen also works with CT&P on the ever-changing property conundrums presented by their clients.

"Many congratulations to Ellen, Orla and Ben.  Well done to you all - thanks for your valuable contributions and your commitment to the firm and our clients." Mike Parker, Managing Partner.
