The end of the Property Boundaries (Resolution of Disputes) Bill

5 November 2019

The Property Boundaries (Resolution of Disputes) Bill was introduced onto the House of Lords in July 2017. It had some support in the property industry but for most property litigators that deal with boundary disputes on a regular basis the Bill was not seen as a solution. Rather it was seen as a blunt instrument with many flaws that did not solve all the problems. Indeed, many commentators when so far as to say it would create more problems than it would resolve.  Fortunately, with the end of this parliamentary session the Bill looks as if it will finally die.

Boundary disputes are awful for those involved and often arise out of a misunderstanding that escalates out of control. One of the most effective ways to resolve boundary disputes is through mediation. Mediation is a process that can take the heat out of the argument, bring about resolution and enable the parties to continue to live alongside each other.

If you have a neighbour dispute and want to consider mediation please contact Peter Bourke, an RICS Accredited Mediator.
