Tax exam success

26 July 2019

Congratulations to two members of our Tax & Trusts team who recently passed their CTA (IHT) and ATT (IHT) papers.

Jessica Broxup passed her advanced technical CTA exam in Inheritance Tax, Trusts & Estates. The Chartered Tax Adviser qualification is extremely tough. Only 42% of those who took the paper passed, so special congratulations to Jess.

Jess said: "Through studying the CTA, I am acquiring an extremely broad technical knowledge base, enhancing the value I add to the team and extending my horizons into more specialist areas. The deeper understanding I have gained through studying the IHT module has already proved invaluable in spotting opportunities for clients. I am thrilled to have got off to a good start with the IHT paper and am looking forward to studying the owner-managed business module next”.

Ben Smith has passed his third paper and the final main exam on Inheritance Tax, Trusts & Estates for the ATT level of the Chartered Tax Adviser qualification. He now has his ethics exam to pass in the next few weeks and he will be ATT qualified. Many congratulations to Ben.

Ben said: "I am very pleased (and relieved!) to have passed. These exams take up a considerable amount of time and it has been challenging balancing study with work over the last few months. I am looking forward to taking a break from exams before completing the CTA (Chartered Tax Advisor) papers next year."

The Chartered Tax Adviser qualification is the gold standard of tax qualifications. They take up hours of study every week and very few pass however, it is the long term goal of the Tax & Trusts team that, eventually, everyone will be dual qualified as solicitors/accountants and as tax advisers which will be of exceptional benefit to our clients.
