Alice Vale

Associate

Alice is an associate in our Wills & Trusts Disputes team. She studied law at the University of Sheffield before gaining a master's degree in legal practice and completing her training contract at Wilsons.  Alice qualified as a solicitor in September 2014.

Alice specialises in resolving trust and estate disputes and acts for charities, trustees and individuals.  She has a particular specialism in bringing and defending claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975, having worked with James Aspden on the leading case of Ilott v Blue Cross and others, and in cases concerning testamentary capacity.

Recent highlights

  • Ilott v Blue Cross and others – Alice worked with James Aspden on this seminal case.  This is the first and only decision by the Supreme Court regarding claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975, and as such is the leading legal authority.
  • Claims in proprietary estoppel and under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975 concerning a substantial estate – settled on confidential terms.
  • Part of a team advising potential claimants in relation to a testamentary capacity and want of knowledge and approval claim in relation to an estate worth in excess of £20 million.
